Statement

Of many of the women I have photographed, I remember little. An eye. A hair colour. A mouth. Not whole people — fragments, details that overlap and blur together.

Chimera starts there. These portraits were born for something else: purely aesthetic sessions, the simple wish for a good portrait. They were never meant to become this. These are my own photographs, taken ten years ago: time had already begun dissolving them before I ever tore them apart. I printed them, tore them apart by hand, and reassembled them under glass. I scanned what remained.

The result is someone who never existed — built from real flesh, from bodies I encountered, from lives of which I hold only pieces. This is not an operation on memory in the abstract. It is the exact shape of how I remember those I have photographed: not archive, not document, but imprecise sediment. Mixing them was not a conceptual choice — it is a confession about how my gaze works.

In two images of the series, among the fragments that make up the creature, I also inserted two details of my own. Not as an outside observer: the same logic that reduces them to pieces reduces me too. If this is the mechanism, I couldn't stay outside it.

The gesture is physical and irreversible. The original prints no longer exist. What remains is a new creature made of real presences, that none of them can fully inhabit and that I cannot return to anyone.

Processo & TecnicaProcess & Technique

Stampe fotografiche analogiche, strappate a mano e ricomposte sotto vetro.

Analogue photographic prints, torn by hand and reassembled under glass. The fracture is not simulated in post-production: it is a physical gesture, performed on real paper. I scanned what remained after the reassembly — the scan is now the only surviving version of the image.

The original prints were destroyed in the process and cannot be remade.
