Scorrendo i social mi trovavo davanti a migliaia di fotografie di persone che non mostravano nessuno. Stesse pose, stessi gesti, stessi oggetti — il palloncino, il vestito, le braccia incrociate. Un linguaggio visivo diventato così diffuso da essere diventato invisibile. Le persone sparivano dentro lo stile. Restava la foto.

Ho usato quegli stessi codici. Li ho fotografati su fondo bianco, con maschere che cancellano il volto, in pose che chiunque riconosce. Il soggetto è sempre decentrato, sbilanciato verso il bordo. Il vuoto occupa più spazio della persona. Stampata, la serie è fastidiosa da guardare — tutto a destra, niente al centro. Era quello che volevo: restituire il disagio di immagini che non comunicano nulla pur essendo piene di persone.

Il bianco non è purezza. È rumore. Un segnale che contiene tutto e non dice niente.

Scrolling through social media I found myself looking at thousands of photographs of people that showed no one. Same poses, same gestures, same objects — the balloon, the dress, the crossed arms. A visual language so widespread it had become invisible. People disappeared inside the style. What remained was the photograph.

I used those same codes. I photographed them on a white background, with masks that erase the face, in poses that anyone recognises. The subject is always off-centre, shifted towards the edge. The void occupies more space than the person. Printed, the series is uncomfortable to look at — everything to the right, nothing in the centre. That was what I wanted: to return the discomfort of images that communicate nothing while being full of people.

White is not purity. It is noise. A signal that contains everything and says nothing.
